Fragile little black thing

Today is not a good day. Sisi, ma she rabbit, is being sick. Yesterday afternoon, back home, I let her come out of her cage and I noticed red drops on the floor and some red something in the spot where she does her intimate things. I succeeded to grab her and look at her and what I saw decided me to call a vet. Unfortunately, the vet I have been to for the past years is near my former home so I looked for the nearest vet here as I am on foot and called to have advice. This morning, I noticed again some little red drops when I let her out so I went to the vet I had call the day before because this is not normal.

The vet looked at her, touched her lower parts and according to what I have said and her health background, she told me it could be an ovarian problem or a urinal infection so she gave her a shot of antibiotics but she could not figure the exact problem out so she wanted to discuss it with her colleage that is at the office in the afternoon and see if she would prefer to see her or send me to the specialized clinic for little pets.

She called me at lunch to tell me that her colleague would rather prefer me to consult at the clinic in Paris. I called there and they cannot give me an appointment before Tuesday afternoon (in the morning I will be working and cannot skip work on my second day). That is insane, I cannot make my rabbit wait a week as we do not even know what is the exact problem. So now, I will call the vet in about an hour when the other vet is there to tell her where the situations is at right now (the vet office is clsoed till 4pm). Female pets are really not easy to handle, they are much favorable to little health problems and I do hope this one will be identified and fixed as soon as possible because even if Sisi does not show any pain, this could be serious after all.

Edit: so I went back to the vet office yesterday afternoon, the other vet checked Sisi up and did an ultrasound and it seemed she could have an ovarian cyst and need a surgery, poor little thing. I have some antibiotics to give her with a pipette and now we will have to wait until Tuesday to know more about her condition.

Sisi is not feeling well!!

Today is Labor Day in France. It's supposed to be a nice day off, we traditionally offer each other Lily of the Valley on May 1st. It's supposed to bring happiness.

That would not be too much because I am all worried today. Since yesterday evening, my rabbit is not feeling well. She has not eaten a single piece of her meal last night, she is grumpy and aggressive, will not let me touch her and the most bizarre thing that happened, she lost her balance and fell several times! She never did that! I looked on the Internet for some explanations and read about neurological problems, etc. It made me be even more worried!

As she is still behaving weirdly I called the vet clinic that, I know, stays open even on bank holidays and it seems Sisi could have caught an ear infection. That would explain why she can lose her balance, if she has fever that could explain why she won't eat, why she is grumpy, wants to hide and is all weird.

I have an appointment for tomorrow morning but the lady told me to bring her in tonight if she still does not want to drink or eat. I tried to give her something and she ate a little piece of carrot and drank some water I put in a bowl, but the poor little girl lost her balance again while she tried to approach it.

I am going to the vet clinic tonight, I want her to fell better as soon as possible, she seems so sick and not in her normal shape. I would also feel less worried, otherwise, I know I won't sleep...

Hope it's nothing serious!

Update (Friday 11:30am): The vet was very nice and auscultated her in each details to try to find something. She confirmed the ear infection but as rabbits's ears are very deep, they can only base their diagnostic on the symptoms and the lost of balance could come from that, especially because she always fall on the same side, the poor little girl. So, she gave her a shot of antibiotics and I will have to give her morning and evening doses with a pipette, this morning my mom will help me but tonight, I will have to do it on my own.

She could also suffer from false pregnancy, the vet had to puncture her some liquid from a teat.

She also took her temperature, palpated her and everything.

I tried to make her drink some water and eat something but that's very difficult, I think she must still feel the pain and is not hungry, but the vet told us that the most serious point with these little animals was dehydration so I will also have to help drink water and eat mashed food with another pipette, this is why we bought her baby food (what was not easy to find as everything was closed yesterday because of Labor Day).

I have another appointment tomorrow morning to check her up. I really hope she will eat something so that she gets better and that we will succeed to give her the medicines.

Update (Sat. 7pm): This morning, I went to the vet for her check up. The poor little girl has now her head that is a little leaning to the right but nothing serious so far, but she keeps falling from time to time, it's so sad. I have to continue with the antibiotics for two weeks but I will be on my own this weekend, so before going to bed, tonight - to let her quiet now - I will try to give her by myself. He told us that she is not dehydrated so if she does not eat, we have to continue with giving her water and liquid food with the pipette. She seems a little better, she eats carrots and celery tops, that a good thing but does not want her regular food. The positive point is that she still have enough strength to fight when we try to feed her and give her the medicines.

I have a new appointment next Saturday morning to check her up.

This afternoon, I let her alone for the first time since she has been sick and it seems she did good, she did not move from her favorite place and rested.

Sisi

Hello to all!

You can see on top of the posts, a little rabbit. I found this application quite fun and I wanted to integrate my rabbit on my blog. Her name is Sisi - there is no spelling mistake, I did wanted to put only one 's' to make it original. I named her that way cause she seemed to be a little princess when I adopted her and she has always been! =) Her fur coat is between black and dark brown but her nose (always moving) is all white!

She has her character (as her master!), but become very sweet and kind, especially with me and later when she gets to know people that treat her well. As all rabbits instinctly do, she loves to scratch and gnaw all that she can (paper, cardboard, even sometimes tissue) so you'd better not let a book, a file or a box near her!

I always think, if I was still at school, I could have used the excuse for not making a homework "but my rabbit ate it!!" lol

She loves rabbit treats and gets some each time she's behaving well.

She's very clever and we were surprised one can educate a rabbit as well (even if they like to not obey sometimes, it's natural!)

She's 3 years old, I adopted her in August 2005, she was already 5-6 months old. I had had two mice the year before but didn't want to take others because they don't live enough long and it's too sad when they die so quickly. A girl I knew from a Internet pet forum, that was working in a pet shop, told me about a little she rabbit that they could not sell because she has a little "something" on one of her eye and she could not find clients who wanted to take her (they preferred babies). I met her to see the rabbit and fell in love with her. I bought a big cage (compared to the little one the mice had), a transport cage, some food, some hay and litter and brought her home.

At first, she was very scared because she had been the past months all alone in a cage in the shop reserve with much contact or love I think, who knows how she was treated, poor girl?... After some time, she began to be more sociable and she adopted me. We like to play together, during the day, she's free, her cage is open and she can go (almost) wherever she wants. She has a nap time, between 12pm and 5pm (more or less), it's actually like her night time.

Her favorite places would be when she can hide, especially to sleep or rest, my bedroom (dunno why) and she likes to listen to music. Each time she's somewhere in the apartment and I put some music, she will come and seat under our desk, so funny!

As I'm often alone at home, she's my little friend, my roommate, my living stuffed rabbit, someone I have to take care of and I hope she will accompany me for a long time.
